White City vs. Chile

Our soccer match resulted in the first tie of the season for White City NBD. Chile FC should have provided us an easier opponent and more than likely a win. This was not the case last night though; since we were 3 men short for the first 5 minutes and then 1 man short for the entire game after that. Without having any subs we were forced to play a more defensive minded game. We had plenty of opportunities to win the game though and generally didn’t look that bad. We really used our size to our advantage and Chile knew this and dove quite a bit. They also complained to the ref fairly often which resulted in a number of their players getting yellow cards. Overall we played a great game and the rematch on Wednesday should be interesting.

Full Work Week

Today I start the first day in my first full 5-day week of work.  I have been lucky up till now to only ever have to work 4 days.  I don’t really expect it to be any different since I normally lose track of days anyway.  This week is also the return of soccer.  I have a soccer game tonight and then again on Wednesday night.  Then, depending on how much time I have, there will also be an alumni game for Greenall Soccer on Friday.  I am also back at the Z on friday.  All things considered, I am in for a busy week.  My only free time will be coming in the later evenings, and by that time I can normally get into other projects.  I’m just looking forward to the Canada Day Super Long Weekend!

919

Incase anyone has seen this and has no idea what I’m talking about. . . Well, I am going to Red Hot Chili Peppers on September 19.  I’ll be in Saskatoon with Nick.  It should be a lot of fun as I have been really enjoying their new double CD.  I’m not as excited about the warmup band The Mars Volta.  I have already seen them live once before (System of a Down warm up band).  They seem to play like 3 or 4 songs for an hour.  Most of the time it just sounds like they are all playing different songs and the worst was the afro singer guy was wearing tight pants and moonwalking.  Not my kind of entertainment!  Maybe since then they have improved their act and will actually put on a decent show.

Wednesday

So begins another, what should be, uneventful day of work.  Tomorrow could be more interesting since my boss will be back after a couple weeks of business trip.  As well, we are going to be moving floors so I expect we’ll have to pack things up and then unpack them again.  It should be plenty of fun.  I’m not sure I will like the new floor though.  Supposidly, I will be moving into a cubicle ..  right now I’m in an small little like 3 workstation section, with a window view looking over East Regina behind me.  In the past if my eyes ever got tired I would make sure to take a look out the window and see how the city was doing.  One day I actually saw about 3 or 4 police officers driving their police cars with their lights on.  One police officer looked like he was interviewing someone with the rest just looking around.  I couldn’t look too long though since I got lots of work to do.  Just like right now!

Possible Really Long Weekend

With Canada on July 1, Saturday, that holiday is going to move to the Monday or July 3rd.  I have been researching this and it also looks like I will have a floating holiday on June 30th.  Not to mention, I have an EDO for that time as well. So I will most likely be having a 5 DAY LONG WEEKEND.  This will be a really great time for me to go shopping south of the border.  Although Amy, said I should stay home for other reasons.  Her reason although has a very without small chance of happening in her head, actual might happen.  This is what I would call a dilemma.

Pandora’s Box

I recently became aware of a very interesting site for music. The site is called Pandora. The gist behind everything is you select some music that you like, then they will start playing that music. As well,  Pandora will throw in songs that sound similar or more songs by the same artist. It continues to keep doing this and you have the option of either choosing that you like the song or that you don’t like the song. By doing that it will broaden or shrink the amount of music you are listening to. I really like it since after a bit of choosing, almost all the songs I hear are songs I want to hear.  Now if only they would create some MSN integration, then everyone would be able to tell what songs I am listening to. I also created a page that has some of my most favorite music, it also features my most recent favorites from Pandora.

Another 4 Day Work Week

With another EDO coming up on Friday I will be enjoying my fourth straight 4-day week of work.  Next week could be difficult since I will have to be at work from Monday to Friday.  I suppose it will only be one more and I shouldn’t be worrying.  The weather around here is still rather cool and looks like rain at anytime.  I hope that it clears out and makes things, such as walking outside, more convenient.  If it does look nicer out, I could very well see myself for a walk outside.

F1 Update

Alonso WINS! It was actually a close race for the most part, until drivers in 2nd and 3rd lost their engines. Shumacher decided to try to put on a better show of things today and finished in 5th place after starting from the back. Our Canadian driver, Jacques, finished in 14th with his BMW. He had a day filled with bad luck.

My day was fairly uneventful. I was able to train Nathan today at work, which was sort of interesting since I got to explain all the funs things I get to do. I’m sure he will actually get a better training when someone else does it though. After work I went on a rather slow bike ride and had a really good time :) . The weather cleared out and it was nice getting some fresh air. With summer just around the corner things are looking nice out there. With Sunday running to a close, so does my weekend and back to work again! I sure do seem to be working alot these day.

Cold Weather means Hockey

It feels like hockey season again. With a high today in Regina of 12, it isn’t very warm. With weather like this it makes me want to watch hockey! Tonight is the Edmonton Oilers vs. Anaheim Mighty Ducks in game 5 of that best of 7. With a win tonight Edmonton will move into the finals. I’ve been following hockey this playoffs but without as much concern as normal. I am a big Maple Leafs fan so it is kind of disapointing that my favorite team didn’t make the playoffs. Although I’m sure they we will be back in next season since they should still have a decent team to work with. In other sports related news, in F1, Michael Schumacher’s pole position for the Monaco Grand Prix was stripped away after the racing stewards believe he stopped on the track on purpose during qualifiying. This happened after he set the fastest lap so, other cars were unable to beat his time. I think it is rather unfortunate but if he did indeed do it on purpose, he deserves to start from the back.

‘Chinese Made’ Condoms’ Strange Label; “Promotes Aids, Pregnancy, STDs”

After working in China for 8 months doing translation work and proofreading, I didn’t really see much value in the work I was doing. After taking a look at this, I can see a very big reason why my job was so valuable. It was my job to make sure that none of the documents contained any error even remotely comparable to this. Even though I wasn’t working for a condom manufacturer, I believe the principle is the same. . when the customer using your product reads something completely unreliable it makes the product seem unreliable. If I ever opened a business in China I would make certain that I hired native English speakers to go over every piece of documentation and signage to check for errors.
