Sports I play and watch.

White City vs. Chile

Our soccer match resulted in the first tie of the season for White City NBD. Chile FC should have provided us an easier opponent and more than likely a win. This was not the case last night though; since we were 3 men short for the first 5 minutes and then 1 man short for the entire game after that. Without having any subs we were forced to play a more defensive minded game. We had plenty of opportunities to win the game though and generally didn’t look that bad. We really used our size to our advantage and Chile knew this and dove quite a bit. They also complained to the ref fairly often which resulted in a number of their players getting yellow cards. Overall we played a great game and the rematch on Wednesday should be interesting.

F1 Update

Alonso WINS! It was actually a close race for the most part, until drivers in 2nd and 3rd lost their engines. Shumacher decided to try to put on a better show of things today and finished in 5th place after starting from the back. Our Canadian driver, Jacques, finished in 14th with his BMW. He had a day filled with bad luck.

My day was fairly uneventful. I was able to train Nathan today at work, which was sort of interesting since I got to explain all the funs things I get to do. I’m sure he will actually get a better training when someone else does it though. After work I went on a rather slow bike ride and had a really good time :) . The weather cleared out and it was nice getting some fresh air. With summer just around the corner things are looking nice out there. With Sunday running to a close, so does my weekend and back to work again! I sure do seem to be working alot these day.

Cold Weather means Hockey

It feels like hockey season again. With a high today in Regina of 12, it isn’t very warm. With weather like this it makes me want to watch hockey! Tonight is the Edmonton Oilers vs. Anaheim Mighty Ducks in game 5 of that best of 7. With a win tonight Edmonton will move into the finals. I’ve been following hockey this playoffs but without as much concern as normal. I am a big Maple Leafs fan so it is kind of disapointing that my favorite team didn’t make the playoffs. Although I’m sure they we will be back in next season since they should still have a decent team to work with. In other sports related news, in F1, Michael Schumacher’s pole position for the Monaco Grand Prix was stripped away after the racing stewards believe he stopped on the track on purpose during qualifiying. This happened after he set the fastest lap so, other cars were unable to beat his time. I think it is rather unfortunate but if he did indeed do it on purpose, he deserves to start from the back.

Bahrain Grand Prix

The Formula 1 season kicked off this weekend. I have always been a huge F1 fan. In the past I used to really like Jacques Villeneuve, since he was Canadian but in recent years he has been driving unreliable, uncompetitive rides. I think I sort of will always cheer for Villeneuve but about 3 years ago I really started to enjoy the driving of Fernando Alonso. He is from Spain but he drives really really well. He drives for Renault. Villeneuve this year will be driving for BMW Sauber. . I think this will be a competitive ride with Jacques having a lot more success.

The Bahrain Grand Prix was very exciting and this season sure started off good. Villeneuve’s race came to an end with a firey blown engine. It was a pity since he was doing well and was looking to finish in the top 6 for sure. The main part of the race though was a battle between Shumacher and Alonso. It wasn’t until close to the end that Alonso pulled off a couple of fast laps and got a really nice pit stop to get ahead. . He won the race and started off a new season out in front of the Constructers Championship. Shumacher finished second. Raikonen who started in 20th place (crashed in qualifying) finished 3rd. I can’t wait for the next race!

Saskatchewan Wins

Congratulations to Erin, Megan and Mandy Selzer on their awesome Canadian junior women’s national title. They had a great tournament, playing some good curling, and now they get to go to Korea to represent Canada. Too bad that Korea doesn’t speak Chinese or I could have taught you some vocabulary. I had the game on while I was at work and all the customers kept gathering around to watch the action. You all did a good job at representing Saskatchewan, and now you get to continue that by represting the whole country. Way to go, you rock at curling :)

Intense Indoor Soccer

Campus Rec indoor soccer is the Christmas break right now for me. To summarize the season so far, I think my team has done well. We have 3 wins, 2 loses, and 1 tie. We have come a long way, and I’m sure we will make the playoffs. I have done a good job at contributing to the goal scoring this season. Last game we played, I scored 5 goals in a 10 to 1 win. I had a good game kicking the ball hard and accurately. The start of the game I was a little worried though. We didn’t get our first goal until at least 10 minutes into the game. After that first goal they all kept rolling in. I can’t wait to get back at it after the break. Although the second half will be more difficult since we will be playing the more difficult teams in our pool :( Oh well, if we try hard I’m sure we will do well.

Grey Cup

Since the title of the post mentions the Grey Cup, that probably means I didn’t do any homework and instead watched the football game today. Alright, so I didn’t get much homework done this weekend oh well. The Grey Cup game was very close. I missed the first half since I was still at work but the second half was back and forth. When the game ended up going into overtime I wasn’t sure what to think. I’m not really a fan of this style of overtime. . I would have preffered two mini halves first since I like it when a team is able to come back from a mistake. I wasn’t really cheering for anybody since I’m not a fan of either team. I think Edmonton played a good game but I don’t agree with the decision of making Ricky Ray the MVP. To me, he didn’t really do much out there today. His receivers saved him on a couple throws and he was sacked and had that fumble that almost cost them. Overall though, the second half was exciting football and I’m happy to have seen it.

Back to homework though! I have an English essay due next week and I’m still working on the book. I hope that I can finish reading it soon so that I can move onto writing a really good essay. I want to have a really good essay before the final to give my mark a big boost. In other homework news, I have barely started the CS330 project part 2. . good thing for that extension, that is going to save me. Also, around the corner are finals. I hope that I am able to set myself up well enough so that I can go into the finals confident about getting good marks. This probably means more hard work and determination to set my sights on studying! I guess that means I should probably stop typing and get back to work.
